Celia Thompson

I am Celia Thompson, biblical counselor at WHG, and an older woman who  loves to walk with adult women as they navigate the changing seasons of their lives.

My counseling approach is to help you:

  • place your story within the broader vision of God’s work in your life
  • understand the interaction of your soul with what is going on in your body, your past and present culture, and the Lord.
  • lift your chin from things seen to things not seen, knowing that the Lord is with you and is in the process of writing your story

In my sessions I use a mix of wise slow listening with offering direction and useful tools to help you navigate your situation. I want to get to know your particular story: understand your season and it’s particular challenges and complexities; your particular suffering and sin; the challenges in your relationship with the Lord and others. I want to help set your story in the larger story of your entire life that God is writing, broaden your vision, lift your chin to things above, and give you practical biblical tools with which to navigate your particular challenging situation. The Lord is near, he cares, he has spoken in his Word, and and brings wisdom to every human experience. I want us to explore these things together.

I commonly work with women who are in changing seasons of their lives and experiencing anxiety, sadness, grief, bitterness, anger, or loss in various varieties: loss of boyfriend, husband, friend, loved one, parent, child, their health or the health of a loved one.

My first career was 37 years practicing as a small animal veterinarian in central Florida. Since my college days with Campus Crusade and The Navigators I have discipled women and lived life with them as we all struggled with sin and suffering, while always yearning to know more about how to help and rightly respond. Resultantly, I went back to seminary at Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia after my retirement to receive seminary training and equipment in their Biblical Counseling program. My husband and I have done marriage counseling throughout our 49 years of marriage and spoken together at numerous local and national conferences with the Christian Veterinary Mission. I am a certified biblical counselor through the the Association of Biblical Counselors, and currently counsel at WHG and First Presbyterian Church of Dothan.

By saying that I am a “biblical counselor”, I am relaying to you that my training was exclusively in seminary. I have no state or secular psychology training in counseling, and I am not licensed. I am a volunteer biblical counselor. I will come alongside you as a Titus 2 older woman, help you reframe your situation with a biblical understanding, and offer biblical principles that are practical, wise and timely.
